In this paper, the role of surface charge on soft wetting has been discussed for the first time. The work is based on a new theoretical model that allows to probe the asymmetric case when the solid-liquid surface energy is different from the solid-vapor surface energy. This paper studies the impact of the ion-concentration-dependent configurational specificities of the end-charged polyelectrolyte (PE) brushes in the development of ionic current in nanochannels grafted with end-charged, pH-responsive PE brushes. This paper probes the role of electric double layer in spreading dynamics of liquid drops on charged surfaces. This is the 9th paper of Shayandev and 11th paper of Guang from SMIEL. This paper also involves two undergraduates, Vineet and Eric, who have worked in SMIEL. Congratulations to all!!!!

Dr. Yuan Gu has started as a Postdoc in SMIEL from October 1, 2016. He is jointly advised by Prof. Das and Prof. Dasgupta and will be actively working in the LPS on the 3-D printed electronics. Yuan has completed his PhD in physics from New Jersey Institute of Technology.

SMIEL is the part of the $3.1M proposal winning team. Funding is coming from NextFlex and UMD (headed by Dr. Siddhartha Das) share is $500K.
