Dr. Siddhartha Das has been invited to serve as the Editorial Board member of Scientific Reports. He will serve in the Fluids and Plasma Physics category.

Guang Chen defends her PhD thesis…her dissertation topic “NANOCONFINED POLYELECTROLYTE BRUSHES: THERMODYNAMICS, ELECTROSTATICS AND TRANSPORT”. This is the first PhD from SMIEL. Heartiest Congratulations, Guang !!!!!!

SMIEL PhD student Mr. Shayandev Sinha has been selected for the UMD’s Engineering School’s Future Faculty Program. In 2015, Guang was selected for this program…and now its Shayandev…Many congratulations Shayandev !!!!

News of the winning of the UMD Sustainability Fund by the GEMSTONE team BACTERIA, mentored by Prof. Das, has been published in UMD Mechanical Engineering Department’s webpage. Here is the link

GEMSTONE Team (Team BACTERIA) mentored by Dr. Siddhartha Das has won $5000 in the UMD Sustainability Fund competition for conducting research on bacterial enzyme driven breakdown of asphaltene for heavy oil recovery. Congratulations to the entire team.
